Missions A Aerial - Res Life

The Missions A complex offers suite-style living, providing campus housing for over 250 residents, and is coed by floor. There are twelve, three-story buildings with each floor housing eight residents in single or double rooms. The suites have a furnished common space and two bathrooms.  These bathrooms must be cleaned by the residents. Each resident has an extra-long (80") twin bed, closet, chest of drawers, and desk with chair. Each room has wireless internet. These units are located along the edge of Tecolote Canyon and some have views of Mission Bay. A Community Director, ten Resident Assistants, and a Resident Minister reside in Missions A. The University Alcohol Policy designates Missions A as a no alcohol living area regardless of age or class status.

Valley RA Office

The RA Office, located at the front desk of Mission Crossroads, is where you can find Resident Assistants working on programming efforts and performing their on-duty hours. Feel free to stop by and talk with any RA to discuss any concerns and ideas you may have for any of the Valley residence halls. The Valley RA duty hours are daily from 7:00PM - 12:00AM Sunday-Thursday (expect for Tuesdays which is 9pm-12am), and 8:00PM – 2:00AM on Friday and Saturday.  You may contact the RAs at 619-260-4625.

Mission Crossroads Desk Services

The Mission Crossroads Desk is the center of activity for the Valley area. The front desk staff encodes room key cards, gives information, and provides toilet tissue and trash bags for residents. There is some sports equipment and cleaning supplies (vacuums, swiffers) for check out at the desk.  You can reach the Crossroads Front Desk at 619-260-4625

Missions A Community Kitchen

Currently the Community Kitchen is not available but Residential Life will contact Valley residents if and when this space is available for use.

Should this space be available, residents will need to check out the key at the Missions Crossroads desk.  Residents are expected to clean up after themselves as soon as they are done cooking.  Limited cooking and cleaning supplies will be available in the space.

Missions Cafe and Fitness Center

This state-of-the-art 8,515 square foot, wellness-focused facility is located in the heart of Missions housing. Designed to strengthen the minds, bodies and spirits of students, the fitness center features a yoga/pilates exercise room, cardio equipment, strength training and more. The Missions Cafe is a full-service coffee/juice bar and sandwich shop featuring an assortment of healthy food choice and late night snack options including fresh organic foods such as sandwiches, salads, plus frozen yogurt.

Missions A Community Director: Bernadette Smith

Bernadette Smith is the Community Director for Missions A.  She oversees the RA staff, Hall Council, programming efforts, and general upkeep of Missions A.  She is originally from a suburb of Philadelphia.  Bernadette completed both a Bachelors of Science and a Masters in Public Administration (focusing in Non-Profit Management) at Villanova University.  During her time at Villanova, she was a member of the Residence Life staff for three years and an active participant in campus service opportunities.

Resident Minister: Amy Gembara

A Gembara

Amy Gembara is the Resident Minister for Missions A. She is originally from the Chicagoland area. Her undergraduate degree is from Fordham University (Bronx Campus) in Classical Languages and English. Post-grad she worked in Campus Ministry and Service Learning for high school and college students in California and Chicago.

She is pursing a Master's of Divinity at the Institute of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University Chicago. Amy recently worked as an Interfaith Chaplain through CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. Her passions include Praise & Worship, food, Zumba and travel.

Amy is very excited to walk with and serve students and staff as a Resident Minister at USD. She can't wait to meet the students in Missions A! Please feel free to stop by for a visit!
