The Kroc School is launching a new Master of Arts in Social Innovation (MASI), with a new cohort of students starting in fall 2017. Given the global call to solve intractable social challenges and arising humanitarian crises, we have designed a graduate program to prepare courageous individuals who want to grow as innovators and entrepreneurs for addressing social problems in more effective and sustainable ways.

MASI’s unique curriculum integrates theory and practice inside and outside the classroom, providing a breadth of applications, combined with a deep understanding of the causes of pressing peace and social justice issues. This graduate program offers a truly multidisciplinary approach with courses and experiences designed and taught by Kroc School professors with faculty from USD’s School of Business, School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) and the College of Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, students will discover the potential of social innovation to create change through ongoing engagement with social innovators in the San Diego/Tijuana region. By learning to design approaches to pressing social problems in the ways in which real people use and interpret them (realizing new efficiencies in their delivery, increasing scale, and making them self-sustaining), MASI graduates will emerge ready to work with populations seeking to lift themselves out of chronic violence, poverty and other social injustices.

MASI will equip next generations of Chanagemakers with important knowledge of global challenges and solutions; and most importantly: a new sense of possibilities for shaping a better world. Graduates of this program will become social innovators able to operate across boundaries between disciplines and sectors. It is a program for those seeking purpose driven careers and achievements because they know the world deserves our wholehearted commitment and best efforts.
