May 10, 2012 Greek Life Recognized for Outstanding Scholarship Efforts Gamma Sigma Alpha and the National Greek Academic Honor Society recently announced the recipients of the GSA Regional GPA Awards for this academic year. We are proud to announce that USD's Greek Life was recognized twice this year! AFLV West Spring 2011 University of San Diego Congratulations to USD for making scholarship their top priority! USD Recognized by the San Diego Blood Bank The University of San Diego was recognized by the San Diego Blood Bank and named "Partners for Life" for surpassing the 2011 collection goal. A very special thank you to Toñis Manríquez for all her hard work and dedication to coordinating 26 blood drives this past year. The San Diego Blood Bank and the American Red Cross collected a total of 528 pints of blood touching 1500+ lives.

Student Affairs Employee of the Year Award Nominations Due Friday This is a reminder that nominations are now being accepted for the Student Affairs Thomas F. Burke Employee of the Year Award and the Student Affairs Powerful Partnerships Award. THE DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS IS FRIDAY, MAY 11th. The Thomas F. Burke Employee of the Year Award is awarded to Student Affairs employees who exemplify the traits and values instilled upon the Division of Student Affairs during Tom Burke's 28 years of leadership. These include: character, sense of humor, common sense, honesty, "others" centered, respect, a focus on employee- and student-development, competent, consistent support of the university's Catholic tradition, and the gift of love to others. The Student Affairs Powerful Partnership Award is designed to recognize departments or offices that have worked with the Student Affairs Division to enhance the integrated learning educational experience opportunities on campus. Nomination guidelines and forms can be found at sandiego.edu/studentaffairs/resources/employee_recognition/. Nominations are due on May 11 for both awards. Winners will be recognized at the Student Affairs End of the Year breakfast on June 6 in the Hahn UC Forums A/B. Manuel Hernandez Staff Employee of the Year Award The Manuel Hernandez Award has been presented to an outstanding staff employee every year since 1985. Regular status (full-time or part-time) staff (hourly) employees who have been employed at the university for a minimum of five years as of May 2012 are eligible. The selection will be based on job competence, dedication to their job, department and university, initiative and willingness to assume responsibility, positive working relationships with others, and exemplification of the values of the university. The winner will be announced at the Employee Picnic on May 30. Please complete and submit nomination forms to the Department of Human Resources by Friday, May 11, 2012. The nomination form can be found on the HR website sandiego.edu/administration/businessadmin/humanresources/recognition. Carmen's Crusaders Shirt Sizes Needed In planning for this year's USD Employee Picnic competition on May 30, we are ordering Carmen's Crusaders t-shirts.
