Social Innovation Challenge Presentations Student Affairs is invited to attend the Phase 2 Presentations for the Social Innovation Challenge taking place from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Kroc IPJ, Room A/B on March 2, 2012. Each USD school will be represented in the 29 teams selected to present (51 applications were received). Students are proposing ideas such as remedying local homelessness, assuaging village conflict in Kenya, addressing excess waste caused by used tires in the United States, fueling entrepreneurship for women in Mali, Africa, and many more. Compassion Without Borders Essay Contest USD students are invited submit an essay for the "Compassion Without Borders" essay contest sponsored by Public Affairs. Contest winners will receive a ticket to see His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the Jenny Craig Pavilion on April 18. Students must submit an original essay, maximum of 500 words, and tell us what "Compassion Without Borders," the theme of the Dalai Lama’s historical San Diego visit, means as it relates to them personally. Submissions are due by Monday, March 19 at 5:00 p.m. Submissions should be emailed to pgray@sandiego.edu. Winners will be notified on Monday, April 2. Winning essays will be given to the Dalai Lama in a keepsake album presented to him from USD. Spring Break Fitness Classes for Employees In hopes that next week's Spring Break schedule allows you to catch your breath and rejuvenate, Campus Recreation is offering the following group fitness classes.
Classes are free to current Fit & Active/Fit into Spring members. Non-members may enjoy classes for $5/day or $10 for the week. Link Peer Mentoring Applications Due Students who are interested in learning valuable leadership experience and connecting with new USD students are encouraged to apply for the Link Peer Mentoring Program. The Link program assists first-year and transfer students from underrepresented and underserved populations with their college transition by pairing them with a peer mentor who provides guidance, support and resources. Fiscal Year 2012-2013 Holiday Schedule As you might have read in the email from Human Resources earlier this week, Dr. Lyons has approved the closure of USD during the Christmas holiday, starting December 24, 2012 - January 2, 2013. The Christmas Break is now permanently part of the University schedule. The University observes a total of twelve (12) holidays (not including the Christmas Break) during the fiscal year.
