Outdoor Adventures

OA is offering an exciting series of outings this semester.

Two upcoming highlights:

  • Valentine’s Day Couples Canoe to take in the downtown lights
  • A trip to Big Bear to experience winter in Southern California. In collaboration with Campus Recreation, we are organizing a bus for skiers & snowboarders to hit the slopes on February 26.
  • Registration is open for both trips.

Break Trips:

  • Spring Break trip, March 3-10, visiting Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef and Canyonlands National Parks and includes 3 days of backpacking.
  • Easter Break, April 4-7 trip to Utah, visiting Bryce and Zion National Parks and also includes a day of mountain biking in red rock country.  This trip will return Saturday evening to allow for Easter celebrations at home or in San Diego.
  • Registration opens after the Alcala Bazaar for the break trips.

The 2012 Social Innovation Challenge aims at helping students transcend from being visionaries to social enterprise owners/ trend setters/ nonprofit founders by providing seed funding ($30,000 to be distributed), mentorship, and guidance from entrepreneurs and the backing of the entire USD community.

West Coast Conference Hall of Honor

USD's inductee into the West Coast Conference Hall of Honor for 2012 is Thomas Burke. Tom's contribution to the progress of our Athletics Department, during our formative years, is unmatched. He spearheaded the move from NCAA Division II to Division I and the West Coast Conference.

Tom will be honored on Saturday March 3, 2012, at a breakfast, as part of the WCC tournament at the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas. Please pass this on to anyone in your division who knew Tom and might be interested in attending the breakfast. For more information, please contact Brian Fogarty at X4614.

Lessons from Ernie

Task: How do you know you had a good day? What is your criteria? What are your rules for success?

Why? Because you can always have a good day based on the rules you set up for yourself.
