Spring Orientation 2013
On Thursday, January 24 and Friday, January 25 we welcomed over 140 new students to campus for Spring Orientation. Throughout the two-day program, many important informational and social sessions were held to help new students with their transition to USD.
Highlights from Spring Orientation include an inspiring welcome address from Dean Mary Boyd and Dr. Cynthia Avery, helpful information from current students, faculty, and administrators on the academic transition to USD, and a personalized tour around campus from the Spring Orientation Board members. Students enjoyed games, dancing, and carnival snacks at the “Big Fun Event” hosted by Residential Life, and got to know each other over a casual and relaxed dinner at Barra Barra Restaurant in Old Town.
CSS would like to thank everyone who was involved in making this event happen and extend a special thank you to the 2013 Spring Orientation Board members: Dustin Adler (Board Chair), Mohammed Al Bader, Amy Bowers, Elizabeth Pun, Jay Winn, Michelle Powelson, and Sarah Giddens.
Student Affairs Dinner at the ACPA/NIRSA Convention
Jason Schreiber will be organizing a USD meal at the ACPA/NIRSA Convention. If you plan to attend the convention, please email email@example.com by February 25th.
Student Conduct Update
In the fall 2012 semester, the Office of the Assistant Dean of Students received 408 conduct referrals that resulted in 338 administrative hearings, 3 Peer Review Board hearings, 15 Critical Issues Board hearings, 3 Appeals Board hearings, and 12 Restorative Justice referrals.
Totals for selected rules of conduct that had a “responsible” finding include:
Controlled Substance Policy (marijuana): 34
We greatly appreciate the work of our dedicated group of students, administrators, and faculty hearing board officers. These individuals help us to address the most serious conduct allegations in our community and do so with a focus on student learning and development. If you are interested in becoming a hearing board officer, there is a short training on Thursday, February 21 from 12:15-2pm. Please contact Sean or Marie for more information. We’d love to have you join us!
