Guadalupe Mass and Celebration

This Sunday, December 8th, the USD community celebrates one of our most well-established and beloved traditions, the Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass.

The feast of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe dates to the 16th century when Mary appeared to Juan Diego near Mexico City. Our celebration of this special tradition highlights our community’s connection to Mexico as well as the profound contributions of Latino spirituality.

Co-sponsored by MEChA and AChA, the evening includes a Mexican dinner with Mariachi music in the Hahn University Center Forums at 4:30 p.m., a performance by Aztec dancers outside the UC at 6:00, a candlelight procession to the Immaculata at 6:45, the bilingual Mass and rose ceremony at 7:00, and pan dulce and hot chocolate with ballet folklorico in the UC Forums at 8:15.

The entire evening will include special prayers for the passage of compassionate immigration reform as well as for all those who are adversely impacted by the current immigration system.

Not on My Watch

Not on My Watch

International Survivors of Suicide Day was held on Saturday, November 23rd at the KIPJ. USD Wellness partnered with the San Diego chapter of the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention which provides support and understanding to approximately 150 local survivors whose lives have been impacted by suicide. Other chapters of the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention hosted similar events around the world and watched a poignant video of how 4 survivors cope with the loss of loved ones to suicide.

The Employee Development Committee encourages you to learn more about how “Our Community Can Prevent Suicide” by taking a few moments to read 10 Ways to Get Involved in NOW, and to continue to enhance awareness and remove the barriers associated with seeking help and mental health concerns.

Human Resources Toy Drive

This year, Human Resources is coordinating the "Toreros Linking to the Community" toy drive. Stop by Human Resources in Maher Hall 101 to drop off new and unwrapped toys, games and/or books. There will also be drop-off locations around campus. Please bring your gifts by Monday, December 9th at noon.

Public Safety Teddy Bear Collection

For many years, the University of San Diego Department of Public Safety has partnered with Rady Children’s Hospital and various San Diego County Law Enforcement agencies to collect as many stuffed teddy bears as possible for the annual Teddy Bear Drive. The stuffed bears are then transported in a multi-agency police caravan and then given to children who are at Rady Children’s Hospital. The drop off deadline is rapidly approaching with our final campus collection being on Monday, December 9th. You can drop off the teddy bears at any of the campus locations listed below. There is still time to bring some special joy to these children through this important San Diego event.

USD Teddy Bear Collection drop off locations:

  • USD DPS Dispatch Center/Main Office
  • Manchester Village Desk
  • Palomar Desk
  • Mission Crossroads
  • Copley Library
  • LRC
  • SLP (Dinning Entrance)
