Thanksgiving in the Grand Canyon
Outdoor Adventures celebrated Thanksgiving in a memorable fashion with a camping trip to the Grand Canyon. Havasu Canyon is one of the most beautiful tributaries of the Colorado River. Its waterfalls can be found on top 10 lists identifying the most beautiful places on the planet and its turquoise water did not disappoint. For many students in the group, this was their first time away from family during the holiday. While other campers nearby were adding boiling water to "cook" their meals, our group prepared a menu that was something you would expect to find at the SLP or at home, not something prepared on camp stoves. The fried chicken, stuffing and homemade biscuits and cranberry sauce were the biggest hits. However, we didn't want to celebrate Turkey Day without the star ingredient and SPAM Turkey was our best option. The entire meal was unexpected, tasty and memorable. The entire group contributed to the preparation and just like at home, everyone ate too much and still made room for pie. You can see some photos of our adventures here. Mark your calendars for next year's trip!
Please help us congratulate Jessica Critchlow from the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion who was one of this semester's CHR@USD Award winners. Jessica was recognized at a luncheon at La Gran Terraza this past week for her commitment to the university!
