Homecoming and Family Weekend Schedule

Check out all of the great events the Torero Program Board has planned for the Homecoming and Family Weekend!

FYE Conference at USD

As many of you already know, USD will be co-hosting the Annual Conference on the First-Year Experience in San Diego next spring (Feb. 15-18, 2014) and the session proposal deadline is Friday, October 11. Please consider submitting a session proposal to highlight and share the exemplary work we do for first-year students at USD!

This is a great professional conference opportunity for graduate students (all SASC GA's and higher education students) with exposure to a wide range of work, institutions/organizations, and individuals in the higher education field.

If you do plan to submit a proposal, please let Merrick Marino know. Thank you!

Women of Impact Awards

The Women’s Center is now accepting nominations for the 2013 Women of Impact Awards. Members of the university community are invited to nominate female students, faculty, administrators, and staff who have had a profound impact on the USD community through their work and connection with others.

All nominees will receive an invitation to attend the Women of Impact Luncheon on Friday, December 6th where they will be honored as strong women exhibiting leadership and positively influencing the USD community.

A diverse group of USD community members will review the nominations and select one student, one staff, one administrator, and one faculty member to receive this year’s award. Recipients’ names will be displayed on a plaque that hangs in the Women’s Center.

The nomination form can be found at www.sandiego.edu/womenscenter under “Women of Impact”. Nominations are due by November 4th.

Thank you for your support of this important tradition!

Ball Girl/Ball Boys Needed for Torero Athletics

The basketball season is about to begin, and USD Athletics is looking for several young ladies or gentlemen who would like to serve as ball girls and boys during Torero home games in the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Ball girl or boys will have an opportunity to rebound basketballs for each team when they warm up. They get courtside seats during the game right underneath the basket to help the officials chase down any loose balls. We ask you to show up at the Jenny Craig Pavilion a half hour before game time.

If you would like be part of the action and part of the team, let us know! Please contact Assistant Coach Ashley Ford at 619-260-7583 or aford@sandiego.edu by Wednesday October 16. We will send you the schedule with dates and times so you can sign up.

We hope to see you and your family at Torero games to help cheer us on!

Toreros of the Week

Associated Students recently began a "Torero(s) of the Week" initiative. Each week a Torero will be selected by the Associated Students Executive team to be featured on the AS Facebook and Instagram accounts for their hard work and accomplishments.

The Torero(s) of the Week should be a person, or a group of people, who not only exemplifies the meaning of Torero spirit, but inspires the same spirit in the people around them. Their daily lives should be excellent representations of what it looks like to live out USD's mission and embody what it means to be a USD Torero.

To nominate a Torero, please use the online submission form found here: http://www.sandiego.edu/associatedstudents/torero_week_nomination.php.

Employee Development Committee: Weekly Self-Care Tips

Our work on the Personal Foundations competency did not end last year. Each week you will find a brief reminder, lesson, or encouragement to assist in our continued work of self-care. Thank you to the Wellness staff (particularly Jackie Gamboa) for their efforts preparing these helpful tools and tips.

Weekly Self-Care Tip #1: Practice self-compassion.
